Obituary

Funeral services for Jerry Gubbrud will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6th at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford. The family will be present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. C. Gerald Jerry Gubbrud was born January 14, 1943 in Sioux Falls, SD to parents Clayton and Mildred (Hoversten) Gubbrud. He died Saturday, June 3, 2006. Jerry was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a life long member of Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD. Jerry was educated at Elmwood country school, Augustana Academy (1961) and graduated from Augustana College with a BA in Business Administration in 1965. He farmed and fed cattle his entire adult life with his dad, uncle and brothers. Jerry married in June 1966; to this marriage was born his four children. Jerry was community minded belonging to various organizations. He served on the Lands Lutheran church board, the school and township board and the FMHA board. He liked to fish and golf when he was younger. After 15 years of friendship, Jerry married Cindy Nelson on March 26, 2005. Jerry will long be remembered as a very loving, kind-hearted person who always put others first before himself. He cared very deeply for his family and friends who were all very important to him. He will truly be missed. Survivors include his wife, Cindy of rural Hudson; children, Gretchen Hammer and her husband Chris of Sioux Falls,  Rolf Gubbrud of Minneapolis, MN, and Ester Gubbrud and her special friend Charlie Ross of Ft. Collins, CO; one step-daughter, Jennifer Kemp and her husband Mel of Tuscon, AZ; and three grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Mark Gubbrud and his wife, Karen of Alcester and Joseph Gubbrud and his wife Caroline of Valencia, CA and three nieces. Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Connie Voeltz.
