Obituary


Bryan (Bob) Hisel Jr. passed away on July 10, 2009, at Aberdeen
Health and Rehab in Aberdeen.
Bob Hisel was born in Centerville, South Dakota, on Valentines Day,
1924, to parents Emma (Johnke) Hisel and Bryan Hisel, Sr. At the age
of sixteen, Bob lost his left arm in a serious shotgun hunting
accident that nearly took his life. Despite this accident, and a
lengthy recovery period, he persevered to graduate from Centerville
High School in 1943 and during his senior year was selected homecoming
Marshall by his classmates. From May 1943 to December 1945 he
contributed to the war effort by working as a civilian employee for
the Department of the Army Air Corp at airbases in Sioux City, Iowa
and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Bob Married Lucille (Bowden) Hisel on June 12, 1947 and they made the
Centerville community their lifelong home. Together, in 1953 they
started Bob?s Shoe Store in Centerville that he continued to own and
operate for nearly 50 years. Bob was active in his community
including the Centerville Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and served
several terms on the Centerville School Board. He was a member of
First English Lutheran Church and later Scandia Lutheran Church.
Those grateful to have shared in his life include his son Bryan L.
Hisel (Julie M. Johnson), Mitchell, SD; daughter Becky (Luther) Andal,
Aberdeen, SD; daughter Bonny (Dr. David) Merxbauer, Aberdeen, SD;
special to Bob was his 16 grandchildren; two sisters Marlys (Punk)
Peterson, Centerville, SD, and Dolly (Roger) Snitselaar, Sioux Falls,
SD; a brother, Ray (Caryl) Hisel, Beresford, SD; and 8
great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, in 2007, his parents,
brother Marvin Hisel, and sister Vivian Osvog.

Visitation will be held at Wass Funeral Chapel in Centerville, SD, on
Thursday, July 16, from 6:00-8:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00.
A memorial service honoring his life will be held at 2:00 pm. on Friday, July 17 at Wass Funeral Chapel in Centerville, SD, with burial of cremated remains to follow at Riverview Cemetery, rural Centerville.
