Boyd Oliver Ostrem was born on the family farm July 16, 1930 to Thomas and Gay (Lunning) Ostrem. He passed away on March 8, 2022 at the age of 91 years, seven months and 22 days at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg, SD. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00PM, Sunday, March 13 at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville, SD, followed by a prayer service at 7:00PM.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 14 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Centerville, SD.

Boyd was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Centerville, SD where he was a lifelong member. He attended Ireland Country School and graduated in 1948 from Centerville High School. He served in the Korean War from January 1952 to September 1953. Boyd was united in marriage to Margaret Nelson on November 20,1955 at the Nazareth Church in Centerville. Boyd and Margaret farmed and raised their family on Boyd's family homestead. Together, they had three children, Tim, David, and Karen.

Boyd had a passion for singing. He was active in the Tri-Valley Barbershop Chorus for 59 years and sang with the Immanuel Quartet. A highlight for Boyd and his family were summer fishing vacations with all the cousins. Boyd was proud of his family and supported them by attending athletic events, concerts, and other activities. Together with Margaret, they traveled on many trips throughout the United States and particularly enjoyed a special trip to Norway. Boyd's faith in Jesus gave meaning in his life and it gave him joy to share it with his family and friends.

Boyd is survived by son, Tim (Kari) Ostrem of Centerville; son, David (Kelly) Ostrem of Centerville and son-in-law, Stuart (Michelle) Carlson of Beresford, SD; grandchildren, Sarah (Jon) Marohl, Amy (Mark) Kaemingk, Daniel (Heidi) Ostrem, Greg (Christiana) Ostrem, Abby (fiancé Levi Reuss) Ostrem, Cody (Megan) Carlson, Austin (Haley) Carlson, and Cade Kuiper; great-grandchildren Isaac, Anna, Kaelynn, Evelyn, James, Zander, Aden, Creed, and Liesel; sister-in-law, Marie Ostrem; and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Gay Ostrem; wife, Margaret; daughter, Karen Carlson; brothers, Bob (Fern), Clarence "Bub" (Ruth) and Arnie; sisters, Leone (Russell) Anderson, Joyce (Eldon) Edman, Phyllis (Gordon) Larson and Anna Mae (Norman) Nelson.

In honor of Boyd's life, memorial gifts may be directed to the Holland Cemetery.
