Obituary

Bonnie Judith (Thorsell) Hagen passed away on March 7, 2021, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 89 years.

She was born at her parents' home in Chisago County, Minnesota, on November 6, 1931. She was the second daughter of five.  Bonnie graduated in 1950 from North Branch High School in North Branch, MN. She worked at Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis, MN, before becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse.  Bonnie worked at the Minneapolis VA Hospital for seven years and became friends with Opal Hagen who introduced her to her brother Carlyle. Bonnie came to South Dakota in 1959 and was introduced to a very large Hagen family. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Bonnie and Wava Homandberg had spent a lot of time on shopping trips buying and returning items purchased while their husbands wondering "When will they get home"!!  Bonnie was very involved with her church with Ladies Aid, WELCA, RLD Club, and was a Sunday School teacher. Bonnie loved gardening and planting flowers.  Reading was one of her pastimes and watching Johnny Carson and Wheel of Fortune.

She lived at Bethesda Nursing Home, Beresford, SD, for the last three years. She spent her time reading, going to church, and talking with her honorary daughter Amanda!!  She loved the staff at Bethesda.

Grateful to have shared in her life are her daughter, Marilee Hagen of Alcester; son, Joel (Jeannie) Hagen of Phoenix, AZ and their sons, Jay of Phoenix and Ryan of Lexington Park, MD; daughters, Jeanine Hagen Kelly of Tea and her sons, Josh Miller Kelly of Tea, and Andrew Miller Kelly of Elk Point, SD, and Kari Hagen of Sioux Falls; and a brother-in-law, Ken Carlson of Sioux Falls and many nieces and nephews and a few cousins.
