Betty (Cremer) Smith, 94, passed away with her loving family at her side on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Centerville Care and Rehab in Centerville, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00PM Thursday, December 28 at Good Shepherd Pascale Hall in Centerville, SD. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00PM Wednesday, December 27 at Pascale Hall with a prayer service at 7:00PM.
Betty Cremer was born June 21, 1923 in Marion, SD to Frank and Clara Cremer. She attended school in Marion and graduated from Marion High School. On August 21, 1944, she married Gordon "Gordie" Smith. While Gordie was serving in the Navy, she lived in Marion. They also lived in Elgin, ND, Lemmon, SD and in 1951, they moved to Centerville, SD where Gordie worked for the Bank of Centerville.
Betty was a full-time stay-at-home mom, taking care of her three children, Don, Doug and Louan. She also babysat her grandchildren, Neal and Katrina. She was active in the Good Shepherd Altar Society serving as an officer and group helper.
Betty enjoyed going out with friends for coffee and loved cooking, especially baking pies and cookies. Her cookie jar always held cookies and could be found in that special spot in the cupboard. She took great pride in watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing sports. She was an avid Minnesota Viking and Minnesota Twins fan. Friends and acquaintances of Betty enjoyed her quick wit and honest opinions. She held nothing back and shared her thoughts completely. In 2015, Betty became a resident in the Centerville Care and Rehab.
She is survived by her sons, Don (Jean) Smith, Centerville, SD and Doug Smith, Yankton, SD; daughter, Louan Bobzin, Centerville, SD; grandchildren, Neal (Tammy), Centerville, SD and Katrina, Yankton, SD; great-grandchildren, Logan, Aiden and Ethan, Centerville, SD; step-grandchildren, Scott (Jennifer), Paul, Jesse and Joe; step-great-grandchildren, Dirk, Cassie, McKinzie, Alex and Mathew; her sister, Loretta Prince, Sergeant Bluff, IA; sisters-in-law, Marianne Smith, Marion, SD and Lois (Jim) Remer, Sun Lake, AZ; and special family friends, Don and Vhonda Miller, Kim and Pat Sees, and Jeremy, Melissa and Reagan Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordie; her parents; son-in-law, Jerry Bobzin; daughter-in-law, Cathy Smith; and sisters, Irene Smith and Geraldine Slavin.
Memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Renovation Project.
