Betty Lou Palmer, age 87, passed away on Monday, April 16th, 2018 in the caring and loving community at Bethesda Nursing Home, Beresford, SD. She was born on February 18th, 1931 in Richland, ND to George and Christine (Damman) Gast. She was the second of four daughters and proudly owned that spot in all of the "4 sisters" photos.
Betty spent her childhood and school years in ND. She met the love of her life, ElRoy Palmer, at the skating rink and they married on October 8th, 1950. Together, they had five children. She worked alongside ElRoy as a self-taught bookkeeper at Farmer's Union Coop in Flasher, ND until their move to Beresford, SD in 1975. Betty continued to work in bookkeeping and management roles. She took great pride in being the first manager of Casey's in Beresford and worked there until her retirement. They moved back to Great Bend, North Dakota to be near Betty's sister and enjoy retirement. They returned to Beresford in 2004. Bethesda became her home in 2012.
Betty loved to cook, read, garden, and was quick to share her wit and humor. She led a simple and unselfish life where family gatherings and reunions brought her much joy, especially the babies.
Left to honor Betty and remember her love are her three children, Janelle (Rick) Doll, Marc (Belva) Palmer, and Brent (Ashley) Palmer; eight grandchildren Justin (Kathryn) Doll, Tara (Colin) Fredrick, Whitney (Nick Cornett) Palmer, Brendon Palmer, Emily Palmer, Hayden (Michaela) Palmer, Josh (Michelle) Palmer, and Joseph Palmer; six great-grandchildren, Jaylen, Loghan, Leo, Jerrika, Hadley, and Ariel. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Angie (Patrick) Palmer of Huron, SD and three sisters, Norma (Ed) Holman of Bothell, WA, Donna (Bud) Thiele of Breckenridge, MN, and Anita (Chuck) Meyer of Milbank, SD. She was preceded in death by her soulmate, ElRoy Palmer; her parents, George and Christine; two sons, ElRoy Jr. and Patrick Palmer, and one granddaughter, Cassandra Doll.
A private family memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran in Great Bend, ND on Saturday, April 28th. Her family finds peace in the reunion of Betty and ElRoy. Memorials received will be given in Betty and ElRoy Palmer's names to Bethesda Nursing Home of Beresford.
