Funeral services for Betty Bystrom will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Dalesburg Baptist Church, rural Beresford. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Betty Louise Justesen was born on June 26, 1928 in Centerville, SD to parents Just and Ruth (Bennington) Justesen. She passed away on April 16, 2006 at Avera McKennan Hospice Center in Sioux Falls, SD after a valiant struggle with cancer at the age of 77 years, nine months and 20 days. Betty graduated from Centerville High School with the class of 1946. While in high school, she worked for Esthers Beauty Shop and after graduating she was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Centerville. Betty was married in 1952 in Santa Maria, California to Don Bystrom of rural Centerville and to this union a son, Mark Allen Bystrom was born on August 16, 1959, which was their seventh wedding anniversary. Betty and her family resided on their farm in rural Centerville until September of 2005 when they moved to a recently purchased home in Beresford. She and her husband, Don and son, Mark attended Komstad Covenant Church for a number of years where Betty participated in many activities including youth group leader, choir, Sunday school teacher and she was also on the church board as Financial Secretary. At the time of her death, Betty and her family were attending Dalesburg Baptist Church. Although she had many health challenges, she always looked forward to church and friends. Betty was a loving and caring wife and mother; she always put her family interests ahead of her own. She spent much time caring for her mother, also a cancer victim, and her elderly father. Betty is survived by her husband, Don of Beresford; one son, Mark and his wife, Sandra; one step granddaughter, Melissa Wnuk, all of Stevens Point, WI; one sister-in-law, Beth Ford of Sioux Falls; several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents.
