Funeral services for Bessie Iosty will be held Wednesday, Dec. 26th at 10:00 a.m. at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Bessie Ilene Iosty was born April 21, 1920 to Edward and Sophia (Haxel) Iosty near Centerville, South Dakota. She died December 21, 2007 in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 87 years and eight months. Bessie was raised and educated in Centerville. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1938 where she was a cheerleader for four years and a snare drummer in the school band. Bessie attended Sioux Falls College from 1938 to 1941. She attended Bethel College and Seminary in St. Paul from 1945 to 1947. She received her bachelors of Science degree from Sioux Falls College in 1964. Bessie taught for 43 years, beginning at the Big Springs county school near Alcester, then in Centerville from 1947 to 1975. She also taught at Oxford Christian Academy in Oxford, Michigan. Bessie taught Sunday school at the First Baptist Church for many years and was very active in her church and a devoted Christian. She continued to live at home throughout her life and cared for her parents. She is survived by her brother, Bob (Darlene) Iosty, nephews and nieces, Verlyn (Patty) Larsen, Sue (Jim) Moore, Jim (Gigi) Iosty, Pam (Wayne) Iosty-Silkenson, Myra Iosty and Sheila Iosty and many great-nephews and nieces. Her parents, one sister and one brother, Edward Jim Iosty preceded her in death.
