Bertha Jane Andersen was born July 4, 1926 in Irene, South Dakota to parents Addie (Fastrup) and Arthur Swensen. She passed away on September 21, 2013 at the age of 87. Bertha married the Love of her Life Marvin Andersen on August 26, 1944. Bertha and Marvin farmed in the Turkey Ridge and Mayfield area (Irene & Viborg). In 1957 Bertha and Marvin sold their prized Brown Swiss cows to make a down payment for a farm and a better life for their family in Beresford where they farmed and raised livestock for many years. In 1984 Bertha and Marvin sold the farm and moved into Beresford. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband Marvin in 2003 and in 2010 she spread her wings and moved to Seattle Washington to be closer to her children and enjoy the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Just recently, Bertha had moved back to Beresford and was residing at Bethesda. One of the big benefits that Bertha enjoyed at Bethesda was that she got to spend time with her great granddaughter Brittany who is a nurse at the facility. Bertha was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran church during her many years in Beresford. Bertha also really enjoyed traveling with Marvin to go see friends, relatives and the beautiful sights of North America. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Adeline and Gladys and her brothers James and Kenny. Among those who survive and gratefully shared her life are children: Richard Andersen of Vancouver BC; Connie Andersen of Seattle WA; Roger and Mary Andersen of Ankeny IA; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and countless friends and acquaintances.
