Obituary
Berniece Shogren, 94, of Beresford, SD, went to be with the Lord on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2009 at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls where she has been a resident for the last eight years.
Berniece Rosalia Johnson, daughter of Olaf and Mabel (Chally) Johnson, was born on May 27, 1915 on a farm near Fonda, Iowa. Later she lived on a farm near Burbank, South Dakota.
Berniece was united in marriage with Elner Shogren on January 25, 1934 in a double ring ceremony with Oliver and Eunice Hult at Beresford, SD. The couple celebrated their 30th anniversary together in Sioux Falls.
Berniece and Elner lived in many different areas. While in Portland, Oregon Elner worked as a welder in the shipyards during the war and later returned to South Dakota where he was a mechanic, farmer and welder. During these years, Bernice was a busy mother raising her family and after Elners passing worked at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford for several years.
She enjoyed sewing, flower and vegetable gardening, and watching her children and grandchildren in their various activities. She was an active member of the Dalesburg Baptist Church of rural Beresford where she served in various ministries.
She is survived by two sons: Roger (Joyce) Shogren of Sun Prairie, WI and Richard (Bonnie) Shogren of Sioux Falls, SD; son-in-law Gary (Jane) Peterson, LeMars, IA; she was a grandmother to 12 grandchildren: Lana Shogren, Sioux Falls, Shelli Washel, Bloomington, IN, Tiffany Weber, Oshkosh, WI, Tricia Smith, Sun Prairie, WI, Randy Shogren, Sioux Falls, Julie Shogren, Rapid City, Kristy Wilker, Sioux Falls, Dale Shogren, Brookings, SD, Mandy Spade, Sioux Falls, Dawn Oleson, Sioux City, IA, Lisa Brown, Cordova, TN and Heath Peterson, LeMars, IA; she was a great grandmother to 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elner, daughter Sharon Peterson, parents Olaf and Mabel Johnson, brother Herbert Johnson and sister Mildred Berglund.
Funeral services will be held 2:00PM, Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Dalesburg Baptist Church, rural Beresford, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
