Barbara K. Huizar was born August 21, 1951 in Sioux Falls, SD to parents Harris and Ruth (Klopstad) Johnson. She died August 2, 2006 in Mesa, AZ at the age of 54 years due to complications of diabetes. Barb attended North Star Rural School and graduated from Beresford High School in 1969. She then attended National Business School in Rapid City for one year and began her career as a medical secretary. Barb married Ruben Huizar on July 20, 1979. The couple resided in Mesa, Arizona where she was employed at Mesa Lutheran Hospital. Ruben died in November of 2000 and Barb continued to reside and work in Mesa until her death. Barb was baptized and confirmed at Skrefsrud Lutheran Church in rural Beresford. She enjoyed music and liked to play the organ. Barb loved spending time with her friends in Mesa and often visited her family and friends in Beresford. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth, husband Ruben and brother Craig. Her survivors include her father Harris Johnson of Beresford; brother Bruce Johnson and wife Anita of Beresford; niece Jennifer Ellingson and husband Pat of Beresford; nephew Wade Johnson and wife Deb of Beresford; 7 step-children and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 10AM, Wednesday, August 9 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford with burial at Zion Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4PM to 8PM with family present from 7PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
