Barbara Jean Lundberg was born July 22, 1938 in Beresford, South Dakota to Oscar and Elna (Larson) Lundberg. She died December 11th, 2023 in Lincoln, Nebraska with loved ones near, at the age of 85 years old.

Barbara attended grade school at Glenwood country school until attending Beresford High School. In August 1957, she married Harold E. Hofman in Luverne, Minnesota. Barbara and Harold previously lived in Wisconsin and California before returning home to their native South Dakota to raise their young family. While living in Beresford, SD, Barbara was a devoted mother who often assisted on the family farm. When not working the farm and caring for her children, Barbara spent much of her later years working in retail and at the local Pharmacy in Beresford, SD.

Her family and friends knew her to be a loving, compassionate, and caring person with a voracious appetite for reading and deeper conviction to her family. Beyond her enjoyment of literature, crossword puzzles, baking bread, Swedish weaving, or telling stories to her grandkids, she enjoyed spending her winters in Texas among friends. Barbara lived her life with coffee in hand, including at the end, as she discovered Scooters Caramelicious coffee and felt joy in her final days. She will be remembered as a loving mother, aunt, sister, sister-in-law, grandmother, and friend or loved one to numerous others.

She was a cherished and beloved mother to three children, and grandmother to 13 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents Oscar and Elna Lundberg, her husband Harold E. Hofman, her sister Shirley (Walt) Brill, her brothers Ronald (Nancy) Lundberg and Douglas (Phyllis) Lundberg, her daughter-in-law Beth (Hal) Hofman, and her great-grandson Braxton Hofman (Brad & Steph).

She is survived by her brother Gary (Diane) Lundberg, and her children, Hal Hofman and wife Jackie (Louisville, KY), Steve Hofman and wife Mary (Ramona, SD), and Cindy Nitzel and husband Bruce (Crete, NE). Along with her grandchildren Jeremy (Allie) Hofman, Adam (Courtney) Hofman, Brad (Steph) Hofman, Luke (Lindsey) Hofman, Nate (Marci) Hofman, Micah (Emily) Hofman, Cory Wockenfuss, Kyle Wockenfuss (Trevor Ashcraft), Cody (Brianna) Wockenfuss and countless other loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.

The Family is thankful to all those who have been touched by Barbara's life. A gathering time for family and friends to remember Barbara will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, SD.
