Obituary

Barbara Jean (Bucher) Haneke was born November 25, 1944, at Miller, SD. She died March 27, 2008 at Sanford Medical Center, Sioux Falls, SD after a 9 year battle with cancer, at the age of 63 years. She was the daughter of Elmer & Lorine Bucher. She attended St. Liborius Grade School and Fairview High School at Polo, SD. She received a Practical Nursing degree from St. Mary's School of Nursing at Pierre, SD. She married Robert Haneke February 10, 1965 at Polo, SD, and divorced in 2000. To this union were born eight children: Theresa (Dean) Schlechter, Miller, SD; Leo Haneke, Beresford, SD; Ron (Nicole) Haneke, Canton, SD; Natalie (Brian) Bertsch, Miller, SD; Ray Haneke, Beresford, SD; Jim (Shawna) Haneke, Beresford, SD; Jon (Jessica) Haneke, Harrisburg, SD; and Joe Haneke of Sioux Falls, SD. She moved to Miller, SD in 1994 and to Beresford, SD in May 1996. She worked for 40 years as a nurse in Hand County Memorial Hospital and Good Samaritan Center in Miller and Sioux Falls, SD as a charge nurse. She also worked part time at the Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD. She thoroughly enjoyed caring for the elderly. She retired in December, 2007. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, canning and babysitting her many grandchildren. She especially enjoyed her 2006 trip to Ireland with her brother, nephew, daughter-in-law and three of her children to visit her son Joe during his leave from service in Iraq. Grandchildren that will dearly miss their Grandma BJ are: Taylor and Callie Schlechter, Miller, SD; Colin, Brianne and Connor Bertsch, Miller, SD; Nathan, Ashley and Jessica Haneke, Canton, SD; Justin, Ty and Colton Haneke, Beresford, SD; Rylan and Braden Haneke, Harrisburg, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Stephen Bucher and sister Vonna Gail (Lornie) Schlechter; brother in-law, Larry Elfrink; niece, Lori Bucher. She is survived by her children, 13 grand children; sister, Kay (Larry - deceased) Elfrink, Beresford, SD; brother Michael Bucher of Welcome, MD; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, March 31 from 2PM to 5PM at Wass Funeral Home and resuming at 6PM at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford with a wake service at 7PM. The funeral will be 2:00PM Tuesday, April 1 at St. Liborious Catholic Church in Polo, SD. With burial in the church cemetery.
