Barbara Ann Hybertson

Barbara Ann Jongewaard Hybertson, 87, of Viborg, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, at Pioneer Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the memories of a life well-lived and deeply loved.

Visitation with family present will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Scandia Lutheran Church. The celebration of Barbara's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville, Barbara will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in Centerville, South Dakota beside her beloved husband Roswell and her daughter Stephanie

Barbara was born on December 12, 1938, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to John and Edythe (Dickman) Jongewaard. She spent her childhood in Beresford, South Dakota, where she formed lifelong friendships and graduated from Beresford High School in 1957.

Just after graduation, on June 15, 1957, Barbara married the love of her life, Roswell “Roz” Hybertson. Together they embarked on a remarkable journey that spanned decades, building a home filled with love, laughter, hard work, and devotion to family. They spent forty years in Sioux Falls, where they raised their daughter, Stephanie, and son, David. In 1996, Barbara and Roz fulfilled their dream of country living when they moved to an acreage near Centerville.

Barbara's life was defined by her caring heart and unwavering dedication to those around her. Whether helping alongside Roz in the family business, United TV and Appliance, serving customers at Hardee's, or later caring for others through her work at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg. She brought kindness, compassion, and a warm smile wherever she went.

More than anything, Barbara cherished her family. She found joy in life's simple pleasures—time spent with loved ones, sharing stories, offering encouragement, and creating a home where everyone felt welcome. Her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and generous heart touched countless lives and will be remembered by all who knew her.

Barbara leaves behind a family who will forever treasure her memory: her son, David (Lisa) of Virginia; her grandson, Steven (Emily) of Sioux Falls; her sister, Bernice (Larry) Chappell of North Carolina; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, and friends. She was excited to welcome her new role as great-grandmother (Elaina) in 2025 though she was unable to spend the time with Elaina that she would have liked to.

She was welcomed into eternal peace by her husband, Roz; her daughter, Stephanie; her parents, John and Edythe; her sister, Esther; and her brother, Dale.

Though her family grieves her loss, they celebrate a life rich in love, faith, hard work, and devotion to others. Barbara's legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the friendships she cherished, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
