Obituary

Arthur Earnest Ludwig was born July 9, 1920 in Chatsworth, IA to parents Hugo and Violet (Patrick) Ludwig. He died May 23, 2006 at the Morningside Care Center in Alcester, SD at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 14 days. After graduating from the 8th grade, Art farmed with his father until the outbreak of World War II. After enlistment he served, first in the medical corps, stateside, and then with the 78th Lightning Division in the European Theater. He entered action at the Remagan crossing and served with distinction until the wars end. After returning home he resumed farming. He married Stella Fickbohm on May 1, 1946. She passed away in April of 1965. Art married Hilma Thompson in March of 1977. He farmed for many years and continued to live on the farm until his health failed. He then resided at Morningside Care Center in Alcester until his passing. His memory is treasured by: his wife Hilma of Alcester; Marylee (Harv) VanBallegooyen of Alcester, Jana (the late Larry) Reiss of Alcester, Laurie Powell of Beresford and Bruce (Debbie) Ludwig of Auxvasse, MO; his step children Perry Thomson of Valparaiso, NE and Theresa Goehring of Sioux Falls; 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. 3 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Stella, his parents Hugo and Violet, his sisters Florence Ludwig and Ida Fickbohm, and one step grandson Aaron Opland. Funeral services were held 11AM, Saturday, May 27 at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester with burial at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, rural Alcester.
