Arland Arne Rusten

Arland Arne Rusten, age 83, passed away peacefully in his home at Tea, South Dakota in the early morning dawn on March 5, 2026. A memorial service will be held at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, SD at 2PM on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Visitation with the family present will start at 1PM.

Arland was born July 18, 1942 to Arne and Borghild (Ellefson) Rusten at home on the family homestead. He attended grade school at Plainview #4, a country school that his sisters, as well as his dad and siblings, attended. His freshman year of high school was at Augustana Academy in Canton, SD. He graduated from Beresford High School. Arland was baptized and confirmed at Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD.

Arland lived on the farm and later moved into Beresford. He worked at Woodfield Center (LSS) for 30 faithful years. He was passionate about healthy foods and dabbled in organic farming. During his younger years he greatly enjoyed the Huset Speedway races on Sunday summer nights. Sometimes he drove like he was on the racetrack! Arland enjoyed going to farm auctions and tinkering with old farm machinery. He was skilled with a self-taught repair ability.

When Arland was stricken with serious health issues he moved in with his sisters, Mary and Dodie in Sioux Falls. They lived briefly there before moving to a townhome in Tea, SD. They lived together harmoniously and formed a tight bond of care and love. They daily lived their Christian faith in their love and service to each other, a wonderful thing to behold.

Arland is survived by three sisters, Barb (Dennis) Weber of Rapid City, Delores “Dodie” Knudtson of Tea and Dorothy Williamson of Sioux Falls; his nieces and nephews, Scott (Emily) Weber of Bondurant, IA, Tamara (Brian) Hakl of Yankton, April (Brent) Schave of Sioux Falls, Rebecca (Dennis) Sedlacek of Sioux Falls, Wendi (Jon) Albers of Rapid City, Denae Tak of Sioux Falls, Danell (Mike) Miles of Harrisburg, Chad (Lacey) Williamson of Coleman, SD, Troy Williamson of Ree Heights, SD, and Travis Williamson of Sioux Falls; 13 great-nieces and nephews, five great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arne and Borghild Rusten; an infant brother, William Tad; sister, Mary Alice Moen; two brothers-in-law, Chris Moen and Ron Williamson; and Dodie’s fiancé, Richard Schulz.

Arland’s family greatly appreciates all the many kindnesses throughout his illness. God Bless! The family requests memorials to: KNWC Radio, 4721 W 71st St., Sioux Falls, SD 57108
