Ardis Joann Lunning was born July 20, 1937 in rural Turner County, South Dakota to Orvald and Eileen (Overgaard) Jorgensen. She died February 16, 2022 at the Centerville Care & Rehab Center at the age of 84 years, six months and 26 days.

She grew up living in Hurley, Rapid City and Madison, MN before her family moved to Centerville. Ardis graduated from Centerville High School in 1955. She married Eldon Lunning in October 1955. They raised their four children on their farm east of Centerville.

Ardis worked at Fireball in Centerville and in a sewing factory in Beresford before she started her 30-year career as a nurse aide at the nursing home in Centerville. Following her retirement, Ardis worked parttime at the Centerville Public School in the cafeteria. She was a good bowler and enjoyed summer camping trips with family and was an avid reader. Ardis's children will remember her competitive spirit when playing games and cards. Her greatest joy was being involved in her family's lives, especially her grandchildren's.

Her parents, husband, Eldon; son-in-law, John Adamson; and brother, Harold preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughters, Starla Adamson of Centerville and Sandy Johnson and Steve of Sioux Falls; her sons, Roger Lunning and Janet of Glenwood, IA and Loren Lunning and Jessie of Centerville; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are her brothers, Gene Jorgensen and Dixie of Sioux Falls and Lyle Jorgensen and LeAnne of Otsego, MN; her sister-in-law, Virginia Jorgensen of Lennox; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be 2PM Monday, February 21, 2022 at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville, SD. Visitation will be 5-7PM Sunday in the fellowship hall of the church with a 7PM prayer service.
