Obituary

Ardis Eleanor Johnson was born January 30, 1929 to Alfred and Emelia (Erickson) Anderson in Davis, SD. She attended country school in rural Davis. She married Ernest Johnson on February 5, 1946 at Dalesburg Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Colorado Springs, CO while Ernest served in the US Air Force. They moved back to South Dakota and made their home in the Centerville area where they raised six children. Being as Ardis was an excellent cook she was employed at Truck Towne Café in Beresford, the Alpha Phi Sorority in Vermillion, Duck's Recreation Center and the Good Samaritan Center in Centerville. She was involved in numerous organizations including the Centerville American Legion Auxiliary, Easter Star, Scandia Ladies Aid, Model Miss (Extension Club) and the Golden Girls. Ardis really enjoyed traveling with family and friends. For the last few years she has made her home at the Centerville Good Samaritan Center where she enjoyed socializing with staff, residents and other visitors. Her favorite pastimes were bird watching out her window and spending time with family and friends. Most of all, Ardis loved spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren with hugs, kisses, and chocolate. On October 29, 2012, with her strong Christian faith and her family surrounding her, Ardis was granted her Angel wings at the age of 83. She joined her husband Ernest Johnson, grandson Jay Pliska, daughter-in-law Sharon Johnson, brother Eldon Anderson and her parents. Grateful to have shared her life are her children, Ruth (Garran) Pliska and Diane (Roger) Starks all of Sioux Falls, Dale (Betty) Johnson and Larry (Pam Anderson) Johnson all of Centerville, Jerald (Nancy) Johnson, Gilbert, AZ and David (Alicia) Johnson of Sioux City, IA; 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; siblings Deloris (Lowell) Warner and Lester (Connie) Anderson all of Sioux Falls, Marlin (friend Lois) Anderson, Canton, SD, and sister-in-law Marilyn (Warren) Bergheim, Madison, SD; and many other family and friends. Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Scandia Lutheran Church, Centerville, with burial to follow at Holland Cemetery, rural Centerville. Visitation will be Friday at Scandia Lutheran Church from 4PM to 8PM with family present from 6PM to 8PM and a prayer service at 7PM.
