Anthony "Tony" Wayne Akland was born September 25, 1977 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Wayne and Sharon (Loken) Akland. He died surrounded with his family, June 27, 2023 at Dougherty Hospice in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 45 years, nine months and two days.

Tony was raised in Beresford and at a young age showed his inclination for music and mechanics. He took piano lessons, played the baritone in band and liked taking things apart to see how it worked and reassembling them. He attended school in Beresford, graduating with the Beresford High School class of 1996. He worked for a short time at Quality Park and also Weatherton Construction doing road work. Tony worked in assembly at Sioux Steam for 25+ years, and was proud of having just recently been promoted to head of the assembly department.

He liked playing guitar, singing harmony for any song, and attending his nephews and nieces' activities. Tony sang in the choir and was a member of the bell choir at his church. Tony went on a blind date in 2015 with Brittney Schweigert. This started a nine-year relationship that culminated in marriage on June 21, 2023. Together they enjoyed getting away on short trips, going to movies and so many fun activities with their dog, Whitey.

Tony is survived by his wife, Brittney; parents, Wayne (Sharon) Akland; brother, Jesse (Jean) Akland all of Beresford; his sister, Kristi (Ivan) Petersen of Tyler, MN; several nephews and nieces including Tara, Seth and Harper Petersen and Loken Akland; his in-laws, Julie (Bob) Duerfeldt of Gregory, SD; his brother-in-law, Dan Furness (Kait Foster) of Rapid City and sister-in-law, Bridgett Schweigert of Gregory; and his dog, Whitey. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Joseph Akland.

A Celebration of Tony's Life will be 2PM Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 101 S 5th Street, Beresford, SD with burial at Roseni Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be 5-7PM Friday, June 30th at the church with a 7PM prayer service. The family requests memorials to Dougherty Hospice, the Banquet in Sioux Falls or the charity of your choosing.
