Interment for Amy Wilbert will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Beresford City Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Visitation is from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20th at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with the family present from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Amy Wilbert was born November 29, 1915 on the family farm in Clay County, SD to parents Ard and Amelia (Nelson) Wilbert. She died October 17, 2006 in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 18 days. Amy was raised on a farm near Beresford and graduated from Beresford High School. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls and graduated in 1937 from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Amy was a dietitian and worked at various hospitals until starting with the US Public Health Administration in 1941. She served as a US Army dietitian in North Africa and Italy during WWII. Following her honorable discharge from the Army in 1946, Amy worked for US Public Health Service Hospitals in San Francisco, CA, Lexington, KY, Staten Island, NY and Savannah, GA. She the worked at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls from 1952 to 1965 and at the VA Hospital in Hot Springs, SD from 1965 to 1971. Amy retired after 30 years in government service. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, WELCA, Do Days Quilters and the VFW. Amy was also a member of Beresford Senior Center; she traveled extensively and loved to play cards. Amy is survived by her brother, Reynold and his wife Harriet (Sundstrom) Wilbert of Seattle, WA; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Wilbert of CA; two nieces, Faith and her husband Dan Butts of North Bend, OR and Christine Wilbert and her husband Rick Goyt of CA; three nephews, Doug Wilbert of Broadus, MT, Paul Wilbert of Durango, CO and Neil and his wife Ann Wilbert of Bozeman, MT. Her parents, one brother, John Vernon and one infant brother, Raymond preceded her in death.
