Alton Larson was born May 18, 1919, in Clay County, SD to parents Aldric and Alma (Berg) Larson. He went home to be with the Lord on June 17, 2011 at the age of 92 years and 29 days. Alton was raised on their family farm near Beresford where he attended Glenwood School. He married Clara Isakson on September 8, 1942. Alton joined the army and served during WWII in various places in the States. The couple resided on farms near Alcester and Vermillion. They were blessed with four children. He enjoyed farming, visiting with family and friends, and taking rides to check out the crops. In addition to farming near Vermillion, he would go south each summer with his sons and a crew of men and did custom combine work harvesting grain from Oklahoma to North Dakota, as well as custom work for other farmers in the Vermillion area. During the winter months, Clara and he spent time in Florida, Texas, and California. They enjoyed being together and rarely were seen without each other. They retired from the farm and moved to Vermillion in 1985. They were members of St. Peter Lutheran church for many years were Alton served as a trustee. He most recently was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Vermillion. He accepted Jesus Christ and made a public profession of his faith as an adult and loved God and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Clara in 2004, sisters Alta Collins and Madeline Vik, brothers, Van Dale, and Verdell Larson. Among those who survive and gratefully shared his life are his children, LeRoy (Marlys) Larson of Vermillion, Janice (Allan) Charrlin of Beresford, JoAnn (Erlan) Olson, of Burbank, and David (Shirley) Larson of Sioux Falls; thirteen grandchildren: Matthew (Dawne) Olson, Angela, (Greg) Cable, Mark (Lesa) Olson, Jason (Holly) Charrlin, Josh (Katie) Larson, Mitchell Olson, Jodi (Doug) Skartvedt, Jesse (Angela) Larson, Jamee (Sean) Coffman, Lonna (Matt) Thelen, Justin (Danielle) Larson, Leslie and Kayla Larson; seventeen great-grandchildren: Garret, Cody, Grace and Micheala Olson, Alexis and Colby Olson, Allan, Brookly and Jase Charrlin, Justin and Alivia Cable, Jayda and Torey Coffman, James, Stella, Hayva, and Grant Larson; one brother, Delsmore (Florence) Larson of Vermillion and many nieces and nephews.
