Alta Jensen was born December 20, 1928 on a farm in rural Lincoln County, SD to parents Odin and Maggie (Hagemeyer) Larson. She passed away November 3, 2012 at her home in Beresford, SD at the age of 83. After graduating from Hurley High School, Alta became Deputy Treasurer for Turner County in Parker, SD. She met Ralph Jensen while at the Turner County Fair and was married October 22, 1950. Ralph and Alta moved to Beresford in 1953. Alta was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was currently a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she was active on numerous church committees, WELCA, and has been singing in the church choir for many years. Her other service activities included Legion Auxiliary, Golf Club, Study Club, Daughters of the Nile, United Fund and bridge clubs. Alta worked part time at H & R Appliance until her death. She loved to play cards, work in the yard, and embroidery. Alta was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, parents Odin and Maggie, sister Orella and her husband Arne Anderson, brother-in-law Elmer Sweeter, father and mother in-law Sam and Alice Jensen and granddaughter Angela Jensen. She is survived by sons Gary (Julie), Rapid City, SD, Bob (Deb), Rapid City, SD, Tom (Val), Sartell, MN and her daughter Debra, Chicago, IL; 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, 1 great granddaughter, a sister Bernice Sweeter, brother-in-law Jim Jensen (Melinda), Brookings, SD; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Beresford, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
