Alice Kelder was born July 17, 1910 in Esteline, SD to parents Jelderyk and Katie (Buttel) Poppen. She died November 5, 2007 at the Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 97 years, 3 months and 18 days. Alice graduated from Esteline High School and began teaching school. She married Rex Elvaker. She continued teaching and also attained a degree in Eduacation from Mankato State College. Rex passed away and Alice later moved to California where she taught school for 14 more years. Alice married Neil Kelder and continued to reside in California. She retired after teaching more than 50 years. Neil passed away and Alice moved to Beresford where she has lived until the present time. Alice was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. She is survived by her daughter-in- law Violet Elvaker of Camarillo, CA; granddaughter Helen Ricord of Austin, TX; nephew Eugene Field of Los Alamitos, CA; and 2 nieces: Doris McFarland of Watertown, SD and Bernadine Field of Beresford, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, 5 sisters and 4 brothers. Funeral services will be held 10AM, Monday, November 12 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday. Burial will be 3:00PM Monday at the Jeffers Cemetery in Jeffers, Minnesota.
