Alice Rae Jones was born January 16, 1916 in Sioux City, IA, a day when the temperature was -26 degrees, to parents Raymond and Ethel (Attrill) Oaks. She died December 31, 2009 at Canton Inwood Memorial Hospital at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 15 days.
Alice Rae lived in Adaville, IA for 3 years while her parents assisted her grandparents with the Adaville Store. They moved to Lucas, SD where Alice Rae attended school through the 9th grade and then moved to Hawarden, IA. At age 11 Alice Rae believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and was saved and at age 13 she was filled with the Holy Spirit.
She met Harold Ray Jones in Hawarden. They married June 22, 1940 in Homer, NE. One son Carlyle Dean Jones was born June of 1943. He died October of 1943. Alice Rae worked at Morningside Manor as a nurses aid from 1965 to 1982.
Alice Rae and Harold loved to travel and made many trips to Denver to see Harolds family and visited many other interesting places. Alice Rae was a quiet person and enjoyed watching and listening people. She especially enjoyed children.
She is survived by her adopted family: Suzie and Larry Morehead, Hawarden, IA; three grandchildren: Sander (Wendie) Morehead, Tea, SD, Steve (Danette) Morehead, Sioux Falls, and Stacie (Luis) Rodriquez, Hull, IA; seven great grandchildren: Samantha and Stephanie Honomichl, Zachary Kirchner, Benjamin and Jaelyn Morehead, and Brayden and Brielle Morehead; and her many special friends at Morningside Manor and Alcester Village.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold and son Carlyle.
Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Monday, January 4, 2010 at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester, with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Alcester. Visitation will be Sunday from 3PM to 5PM at Wass Funeral Home.
