A memorial service for Alice Cooper Ericson will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009 at Alcester Baptist Church. She died December 4, 2008 at Mission, Texas at the age of 95.
Alice was born July 8, 1913 at Hawarden, IA to parents Irwin and Maude Cooper. Alice grew up near of Hawarden, attending rural school and graduating from Hawarden High School. After graduating she attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, IA, Normal School, and the University of South Dakota.
Alice married Mylo Ericson on August 6, 1938. They farmed and she continued her teaching career, which spanned over 50 years, teaching in Iowa and South Dakota. After moving to California she taught at Rossmore School where she was honored as Teacher of the Year.
After retiring in 1977 they moved back to Alcester and Alice taught at Wessington Springs and Lower Brule, SD. They wintered in Texas where she continued to teach.
Alice was a member of the Alcester Baptist Church. Mylo passed away on May 18, 1994.
Her parents, Maude and Irwin Coper; her husband, Mylo; and one brother, Byron Cooper, preceded Alice in death.
Among those surviving are her daughter, Susan Ericson of Alcester and Mission, TX; one son, Sydney Ericson and his wife Marion of Brea, CA; three grandchildren, Michael, Axel and Orum Ericson; one great-granddaughter Alexandra Ericson; her sister-in-law, Betty Cooper of Alcester; nieces Becky Rus and her husband Marion of Rock Valley, IA, Belinda Fink and her husband Rick and family of Harrisburg, Barbara Von Hampen and her husband Deeter and son from Council Bluffs, IA; and other relatives and friends.
