Alice Berg was born January 4, 1908 in Minneapolis, MN to parents Mike and Carrie (Stene) Hansen. She died August 12, 2008 at the Morningside Care Center in Alcester, SD at the age of 100 years, 7 months and 8 days. At a young age, Alice moved with her family to Illinois and later to Alcester, SD. She attended rural school and Beresford High School for one year. She married Oscar Berg on Jan 26, 1927. The couple resided in rural Alcester where Alice helped with farm work and was a homemaker. They moved into town in 1979. Oscar passed away in 1988 and Alice has continued to reside here until the present time. Alice was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Nathanael Lutheran Church where she had served in the Ladies Aid, quilting group and was as a Sunday school teacher. She was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening and crafts of many kinds. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister and a brother, a daughter-in-law, a granddaughter and a great granddaughter. Her survivors include her daughter Marlys Hughes and husband Dick of Alcester; two sons: Rodney Berg and wife Pat of Alcester and Allen Berg of Sioux Falls; 7 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 13 great, great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, August 15 at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be one prior to services at the church.
