Albert Otto Nase was born to Otto and Alvina (Anderst) Nase on January 27, 1924 at Armour, SD. He attended rural grade school and began high school in Armour. He was baptized on April 6, 1924 and was confirmed on June 26, 1938 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod in Armour. In 1941 his family moved to Beresford, SD where he graduated from Beresford High School in 1942. He helped his dad on the farm and many of the neighbors during World War II. He married Lucille Bernice Blume on September 21, 1947 at Redfield, SD. To this union four children were born. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this fall. Albert farmed his entire life, specializing in dairying. He was a grade A dairy farmer and sent many gallons of milk to Land O Lakes. Albert was interested in 4-H and was the leader of the Lucky Clover 4-H Club for 19 years. He was always happy to hear from his former 4-H club members. He served on the school board for Middleton School District, Davis, SD. He was a member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) for many years. He also served on the Turner Township Board of Supervisors for over 10 years and was a member of the Turner County Weed Board serving as chairman for several years. Albert was a member of First English Lutheran Church since 1942 and served all positions on the Council, many of those years as chairman. After he retired and moved to town he spent many hours doing lawn work at the church. He sold his dairy cows in 1988 and the rest of his machinery in February of 1992 and retired to Centerville where he has resided the last 15 years. Albert served on the Centerville City Council for 5 years. After retirement he and Lucille went on many trips including Alaska, mid-Europe, the East and West Coast and numerous other places. They spent winters in Florida, Arizona, and McCallen, TX. He also enjoyed hunting deer and playing cards, especially pinochle. In 1999 he was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome anemia (MDS) and received his first blood transfusion in May of 2000 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. In the last 7 years he has received over 250 units of blood. He entered the Avera McKennan Hospice Unit in Sioux Falls on February 27, 2007 and passed away on March 12, 2007. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Lucille of Centerville; two sons: Stanley (Teresa) of Hot Springs, SD and Ricky (fianc Bonnie) of Brookings, SD; two daughters: Mary Lou (Michael) Rahe of Burt, IA and Joann (Richard) Vesole of Bettendorf, IA; nine grandchildren: Brandon Nase, Ashley Nase, Jennifer Rahe, Melissa Rahe, Michelle Vesole, Sarah Vesole, Adam Vesole, Zachary Davis, and Spencer McCall; brother Kenneth (Shirley) Nase of Worthington, MN; two sisters: Charlene Johnson of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Eleanor (Dr. A.A.) Nestor of Sarasota, FL; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First English Handicap Accessibility Fund or Avera McKennan Hospice. The family would like to extend their gratitude for all the care and compassion of Dr. Kelly McCaul and his staff at Avera McKennan Hematology and Transplant and the Avera McKennan Hospice Unit. Funeral services will be held 1:30PM, Friday, March 16, 2007 at First English Lutheran Church, Centerville. Visitation will be Thursday from 2PM to 8PM with family present from 6PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville.
