Aileen LaVonne Sundstrom was born June 15, 1924 to Hans and Lizzie (Braastad) Johnson in Beresford, SD. She died December 18, 2015 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 91 years, six months and three days.
Aileen was raised in the Spink, SD area and attended country schools. She was confirmed at Roseni Lutheran Church at the age of 13. Following her graduation from Beresford High School in 1942 she attended N.B.T. Business School in Sioux City, Iowa. Aileen was employed as a bookkeeper for Wind Charger and Woodbury Bank in Sioux City. She returned to Beresford and was employed as a bookkeeper for International Harvester and then was a homemaker.
She was united in marriage April 2, 1955 to Wesley Sundstrom at Emmanuel Lutheran in Beresford. Together they farmed southwest of Beresford. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, birds, embroidery, the outdoors, and making Sunday dinner for her family. Aileen volunteered for several years at the Civic Center in Beresford. Following Wesley's death in 2009, Aileen stayed on the farm until the spring of 2015. She was an avid reader and liked doing word puzzles.
Survivors include her two sons, Dwight Sundstrom and David Sundstrom of Beresford; grandson, Nicholas Sundstrom of Sioux Falls; brother, Alverne (Peggy) Johnson of Great Falls, MT; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, Wesley; and grandson, Dustin preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be 10AM Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford. Burial will follow in the Bonine Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
