Obituary

Adele Evelyn Jackson was born August 21, 1915 on a farm in Clay County, South Dakota to parents, C. Edward and Ella Hansen. She died September 22, 2010 at Morningside Care Center in Alcester, SD at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 1 day.

Adele attended Prairie Center Elementary School and Vermillion High School. When Adele was fifteen her mother passed away after which she remained at home to help her father with the younger children and housekeeping. On December 24, 1936 she married Oscar Jackson at the Roseni Parsonage, Beresford, SD. They farmed near Vermillion until they retired and moved to Alcester in 1988.

While living in the country, Adele was very active helping on the farm and in her community. Adele was an active member of St Peter Lutheran Church with involvement in Sunday School, Mission Society, Ladies Aid and Womens Christian Temperance Union. Adele enjoyed her flower gardens, reading, writing stories, family history, making quilts, knitting hats and mittens for kids and playing dominos. After moving to Alcester, she became a member of the United Church of Christ and the Morningside Manor Auxiliary.

Adele is survived by her husband Oscar residing at Morningside Care Center in Alcester, one sister Elaine (Robert) Brown, Vermillion, SD, sons Daryl (Lillian) Jackson, New Philadelphia, OH and Jerry (Sue) Jackson, Minnetonka, MN, daughter Kay (Dexter) Brock, Sioux Falls, SD, seven grandchildren, Cheryl ( Patrick) Snyder, Dover, OH, Suzanne (Dan) Kaiser, Trieste, Italy, Michelle (Steve) McQueen, New Philadelphia, OH, Krista (Jason) McKee, Gahanna, OH, Sharon Jackson, Wayzata, MN, Greg (Sarah) Jackson, Minneapolis, MN, and Rebecca (Aaron) Schmidt, Duluth, MN; ten great grandchildren, Sabrina, Sarah and Claire Kaiser, Tyler and Emilie McQueen, Taylor and Lauren Schmidt, Carol Ann Snyder and Kolin and Colton McKee.

Adele was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Pamella, brothers Carroll Hansen, Harley Hansen, Elden Hansen and daughter-in-law Carol Fisher Jackson.

Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Saturday, September 25 at the United Church of Christ in Alcester with burial at St. Peter Greenfield Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Friday from 5PM to 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or Billy Graham Evangelical Association.
