Ada E. Johnson, 84, of Viborg, SD died Friday, February 23, 2007 at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27th at Spring Valley Lutheran Church, rural Viborg. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2:00 8:00 p.m. at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6:00 8:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Ada Eleanor (Knudsen) Johnson, 84 went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 23, 2007 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg. Ada was born on November 17, 1922 to Alfred and Lena (Jensen) Knudsen at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. She was their only child. Ada was baptized into the Lutheran faith December 23, 1922 and confirmed June 15, 1937. She grew up on the family farm that her Grandpa Denmark homesteaded. Ada attended grade school at rural District #10. She moved with her parents to Escondido, California where she graduated from high school in 1940. Ada attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska where she obtained her elementary teaching degree. She taught school for many years in the rural Turner County elementary school system. Ada was married to Orville Johnson on June 28, 1944 at Spring Valley Lutheran Church. To this union two children were born, David born August 12, 1946 and Annet born May 8, 1953. Orville died September 4, 1974. Ada was an active member of Spring Valley Lutheran Church serving in various offices of the ELCA women, Sunday school superintendent and teacher, choir director and organist. She had a special talent of playing the piano by ear. Ada loved the outdoors and taking pictures of nature. Her love of plants and flowers was evident throughout her life. She was especially at peace in her flower garden on the farm. Ada was active for many years in the Viborg Garden Club and worked in the flower department at the Turner County Fair. Her other hobbies included ceramics, painting, knitting, embroidery, traveling and rummaging. Some of Adas greatest pleasures in life were times spent with her children and grandchildren. Her strong faith in God in times of trouble will always be an inspiration to all of us. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, David (Melissa) Johnson of Viborg and Annet (Gary) Kropuenske of Hurley; seven grandchildren, Stacey Phillips, Chad (Susan) Johnson, Amy (Jared) Oswald, Ashley Johnson, Jennifer (Bryce) Olson, Sara (David) Stevicks and Beth Kropuenske; seven great-grandchildren, Kristen, Brooke, Skyler and Morgan Phillips, Trey Oswald and Alyssa and Andrew Olson. Preceding her in death were her parents, Alfred and Lena Knudsen, husband, Orville Johnson and one daughter-in-law, Marlene Johnson. Grandma Ada will be greatly missed by her family as well as by many who knew and loved her. God bless her memory.
