Life Legacy

Wayne R. Ebsen was born October 23, 1928 in rural Beresford, South Dakota to parents Henry and Anna (Lee) Ebsen. He died February 16, 2007 at his home in Lake Andes, SD, from heart complications, at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 23 days.

Wayne grew up and lived most of his life farming south of Beresford. He married Marjorie Nelson of Centerville, SD on October 16, 1949. They later moved into Vermillion where he worked at the University of South Dakota until his retirement in 1986. Marjorie passed away in 1981. Wayne moved to his retirement home on the lake at Lake Andes, SD. He married Mardell Toots Husby who was formerly of Vermillion. He spent his time working on projects, fishing, and traveling to visit with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marjorie, brother Kenneth, and 4 sisters, Valeria, Helen, Elva, and Janice.

Waynes survivors include his wife Mardell Toots Ebsen, Lake Andes, 2 sons: Steven (Helen) Ebsen, Sioux City, IA and Rick (Phyllis) Ebsen, Meckling, SD; daughter Valerie (John) Zweifel, Beresford; 3 granddaughters: Danelle (Tom) Kamnikar, Sioux Falls, Janelle Zweifel, Murfreesboro, TN and Amy Ebsen, Sioux City, IA; 2 grandsons: Mark (Shana) Zweifel, Harrisburg, SD and Paul Ebsen, Sioux City, IA; 1 great granddaughter Maggie, 1 great grandson Austin and 1 great grandchild expected soon (Danelle); stepson Dale (Shelly) Husby, Vermillion, 2 stepdaughters: Ranae (David) Kimball, Vermillion and Robin (Karl) Leikvold, Wakonda; 5 step grandsons: Ryan and Tyler Husby, and Paul, Bradley and Brian Kimball; 3 step granddaughters: Karen (Cody) Hall, and Kelsie and Sophie Leikvold; 7 step great grandchildren: Christian, David, Jordan, Noah, Justin, Bryce and Kyelah; sister-in-law Bette Ebsen, Mesa, AZ; 2 brothers-in-law Russell Kirkebak, Beresford and Joseph Bellesheim, New York; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
