Life Legacy

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at Alcester Baptist Church in Alcester. Visitation will be held from 2-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester with the family present from 6-8:00 p.m.

Agnes L. Vanberg Swenson was born February 17, 1920 in Akron, Iowa to parents Morris and Nellie (Robley) Vanberg. She died Monday, September 18, 2006 at Morningside Manor in Alcester at the age of 86 years, seven months and one day.

Agnes was raised in Akron where she graduated from Akron High School in 1938. She married Oliver Swenson in Le Mars, Iowa on October 6, 1940. They moved to Alcester where they owned and operated Swenson Gambles Store until their retirement in 1984.

Agnes was a member of Alcester Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She also sang at many local weddings and funerals. Agnes will be remembered as a great seamstress and gardener; she and Oliver had a large garden north of their home for many years. She traveled extensively in retirement with Oliver.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Peterson, and her husband Terry of Sioux Falls; two granddaughters, Kristi Staudenmaier, and her husband Brent of Las Vegas and Kim Steinke, and her husband Jay of Sioux Falls; three great-grandchildren, Kylie Staudenmaier, Mitchel and Miah Steinke; sister-in-law and brother-in-law as well as special family friends, Eileen and Richard Johnson of Alcester; two sisters-in-law, Esther Swenson of Bridgewater, SD and Anne Vanberg of Dallas, TX. Her parents, husband, Oliver and one brother, Harold Vanberg preceded her in death.
